Professor Archana Sharma and Professor A K Sharma Oration

The Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma and Professor A K Sharma Memorial Oration was introduced after the death of the founder and 1st President of Archana Sharma Foundation of Calcutta, Professor A K Sharma in 2017. All the members of ASFC are either Professor A K Sharma and Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma’s students or colleagues or friends. All of them unanimously agreed to introduce a memorial lecture annually to show their respect, gratitude, and affection and to honor the memory of the two noble souls who had left this material world for their heavenly abode. The members decided to introduce this special oration with an honorarium and a plaque as a token of appreciation to the orator. Since 2018 four such memorial lectures were organized by the Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Botany, CU. These were held in four consecutive years, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. The first two were held at the Archana Sharma Memorial Hall, Department of Botany, CU, Kolkata. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and prevailing lockdown circumstances, the last two were held through online Webinar system. Selection of the orator for these memorial orations were made based on (i) the person’s history of acquaintances with Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma and/or Professor A K Sharma during their lifetimes and (ii) the orator should have good oratory skill and be able to disseminate up to date and further knowledge in the chosen subject area among the students/research scholars besides interested general audience.
