History of the Journal:

'THE NUCLEUS - An International Journal of Cytology and Allied Topics' is being published by Springer Publications Pvt. Ltd., India, and Germany (now Springer-Nature Publications Pvt. Ltd.) through a co-publishing agreement with late Professor A K Sharma since 2010. Professor Sharma acted on behalf of the Archana Sharma Foundation of Calcutta (ASFC), as the Founder and the President of the Archana Sharma Foundation of Calcutta, the society which was established in September 2009. Since 2010, Professor A K Sharma was the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of The Nucleus besides being the Founder President of the Society. Before that, late Professors A K Sharma and Archana Sharma, being joint editors of the journal, published this journal on their own since its inception in 1958 when the journal was inaugurated at the International Congress of Genetics at Montreal. Publication of this journal ‘The Nucleus’ was the brainchild of Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma, as Professor A K Sharma often admitted. Since inception, the journal was published without interruption under the joint editorship of A K Sharma and A Sharma till Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma's demise on 14th January 2008. It was then published under supervision of Professor A K Sharma as the Editor-in-Chief assisted by two of his students Dr. U C Lavania from Lucknow (as Managing Editor) and Dr. Bani Gajra from Kolkata (as Associate Editor) until he left for his heavenly abode on 6th July 2017. The Foundation (society) completed 11th year in 2020 and has started its 12th year journey in 2021 since its establishment in 2009 and the journal completed 63 years (Vol 63) of existence in 2020 since its 1st volume was published in 1958. At present it is running 64th year (Vol 64). The Journal has also completed 10th year and entered 11th year of publication with combined efforts of Springer-Nature and ASFC. The present Editorial Board consists of the following members who are also members of the ASFC.

1958-2005 - Published jointly by Professor A K Sharma and Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma (when Printers were Saraswati Press, Kolkata and Neo Dimension, Kolkata)

2006-2009 – Published by MD Publications, New Delhi through agreement with Professors A K Sharma and Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma as proprietors and joint editors of the journal.

2010-2017 – Published by Springer Publications Pvt. Ltd., India & Germany and later Springer-Nature Publications Pvt. Ltd., India & Germany through a co-publishing agreement with Professor A K Sharma, Founder of ASFC and 1st Editor-in-Chief of the journal till his death in 2017.

2017 - till date – Published by Springer -Nature Publications Pvt. Ltd. With the same co-publishing agreement freshly undertaken with President of ASFC, Editor-in-Chief of the Nucleus and few other important members of the Society/journal.
