Brief history of the Foundation (ASFC)

The establishment of a society became necessary when Springer Publications Pvt. Ltd., India and Germany (now Springer-Nature Publications, etc.) and Late Professor A K Sharma entered into a co-publishing agreement for publication of the 52-year-old journal ‘THE NUCLEUS - An International Journal of Cytology and Allied Topics’ during 2009-2010. Thus, the Archana Sharma Foundation of Calcutta (ASFC) was established by the Founder President Professor A K Sharma in memory of Professor (Mrs.) Archana Sharma in the year 2009. The Foundation which is also called a ‘Society’ (by the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961) started with Professor A K Sharma as the President along with an eight-member Governing Body in 2009. The journal ‘The Nucleus’ started its first publication from volume 53 (The Nucleus, Vol 53) with Springer-Nature (then Springer) in 2010 with Professor A K Sharma as the Editor-in-Chief. The ASFC has at present 12 Governing Body members and 20 General members since last Annual General Meeting of 2020.
